The only way out is through.

Self explanatory, no?

Oh, so not really.  Sorry.  Let me put it another way.  You’ve got a small window for backing out of things.  Let’s take a hike as an example.  I was out at Sugarloaf mountain a few weeks ago.  Just at the end, my group trudged past a woman in a skirt and high heeled boots making a descent.  She was only a few yards into the blue trail, which is 6.2 miles long.  She wasn’t going to make that 6.2 miles in those shoes.  She was still in the “backing out” window, which I assume she did in relatively short order.  But there’s a threshold and once you cross it, backing out is going to be just as painful as walking through.  You can’t short cut it, you can’t sit down and pretend you’re somewhere else.  The only way to get out of the situation that you’re in is to go through it.

The only way out is through.
